Dear Neighbors,

On behalf of the new Board of Directors at Kingston Uptown Business Association (KUBA), I hope this letter finds you, your family, and all your employees doing well during these unprecedented times. As we look ahead to the new year, I hope you’ll agree there is a bright glimmer of optimism in all the possibilities that lie ahead. I want to personally extend my sincerest gratitude for your support and participation, as we continue to move forward together.

Welcome KUBA's New Executive Board

KUBA is excited to introduce our diverse and united group of volunteers, who have pledged to serve on the 2021 Board of Directors and to uphold KUBA's mission:

·       Vice President: Andrew Addotta (Hamilton & Adams)

·       Communications Director: Connie Harkin (Ulster Savings Bank)

·       Treasurer: Nan Potter (Potter Realty)

·       Secretary: Miriam Gibbons (PuroClean)

KUBA's 2020 Accomplishments

The past 12 months have been productive for KUBA. We have:

  • Produced and executed the most-attended Snowflake Festival to date.
  • Decorated Uptown Kingston with a holiday tree, lights and wreaths. 
  • Coordinated volunteers for planter boxes.
  • Redesigned KUBA website for member networking.
  • Supported the “Uptown is Open” initiative during the summer months. 
  • Hired Walter Relyea to garden and clean Uptown.
  • Made a donation to YMCA Farm Kids program for weeding the Bioswales.
  • Installed “Way-Finders” signage at the corner of Washington and N. Front St.
  • Collaborated with the Ulster County Department of Economic Development and the City of Kingston to launch the “Uptown EVERY Weekend” community campaign, offering turn-key programs for local businesses, including "Kingston Sidewalk Sale", "FALL into Kingston", "Shop Small in Kingston" and "Give A Gift from Kingston". 
  • Launched the “Lighting the Way” campaign, which involved installing LED lights along the Pike Plan. 
  • Maintained active communication with the City of Kingston Mayor's Office to address a myriad of ongoing community matters relating to local businesses and beatification.
  • Initiated a growing social media platform to help promote and connect Kingston businesses.
  • Began discussions to develop a new Kingston festival, targeted to launch in the spring of 2021.
  • Collaborated with Ulster County Tourism to help develop a new marketing campaign geared towards stimulating Kingston tourism in 2021–2022.
Connecting Community

The Kingston Uptown Business Association (KUBA) is an all-voluntary, not-for-profit organization, forming a strong network of proactive businesses, not-for-profits, and individuals working together to create, sustain, and maximize a vibrant and interconnected community. We actively help our members grow and prosper, seek to ways to attract new business investments and consumers, and provide a common voice for advocacy.

Special Thanks

Honoring Elenie Loizou (pictured above), our KUBA President from April 2017 to December 2020. During her tenure as President, Elenie has led KUBA forward in our business community and played an integral part in our relationship with city officials. It’s her dedication and her behind the scenes work that we are most thankful for. Elenie is a steward in our community and has a heart of gold. We are grateful she will continue to serve on KUBA’s Board.


KUBA wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Storage 28 for providing us with storage and keeping Uptown's holiday decorations safe; and The Christmas Guys who helped to implement our "Lighting the Way" program!

KUBA meetings are open to all members and are held on the first Wednesday of each month. Until further notice, all meetings will take place via Zoom. Please check our calendar for the latest details.

Our next meeting will be held: Wednesday January 6, 2021:

  • KUBA's Board meeting: 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM.
  • KUBA's Community meeting with guest speakers and discussion begins at 8:30 AM
